Courtney Hits the USA!

SWAS Athlete Courtney Van Diesen has come back from an eye opening experience in the USA!

Courtney was selected to compete with an organisation called Sport travel Australia in three competitions during her time there.

Her competitions were split up in three different locations around Nevada.

Race one: University of Nevada XC International – Here Van Diesen was named in the Australian Varsity Team and finished 34th with a time of 24.15 – The Australian team finished 6th overall in the event.

Race two: Bishop German Cluster at Bonnie Springs – Courtney finished 25th overall out of 123. Having her slowest time for the trip of 25.14, Courtney experienced the true meaning of the word ‘cross country’ and battled against the harsh Las Vegan heat.

Race three: Falcon XC International – Van Diesen finished 13 out of a field of 123 with a time of 21.39 – the best for her trip and scoring her first international medal.

Courtney has learnt a lot from the trip – improving technique and learning the level of others in her age group.

Upon returning to Australia Courtney was contacted by NSR Australia offering her a position in their program to study and play soccer at a USA college post year 12!

Courtney learnt a handful of lessons that only international competition can provide and loved every minute of the experience, she is now hard at work developing her skills and technique in the lead up to the Australian Summer Season.
